Royals Are Provincial Champs!Winkler hosted Killarney on Thursday night looking to hoist the Hockey Manitoba Senior A Championship at home, and they didn't disappoint the hometown fans!
Killarney opened the scoring seven minutes in on the powerplay and extended their lead to 2-0 with another with 30 seconds remaining. Lewadniuk's goal with a second remaining in the period made it a one goal game.
With no scoring in the second period, the game remained close after 40 minutes, largely due to the SEMHL's goaltender of the year and playoff MVP Matthew Thiessen who faced 32 shots at that point.
Augert tied it up at two goals apiece with just over eight minutes remaining. The game could have gone either way as there were 31 shots taken by the teams in the third but it was Fowlie's goal with 2:19 remaining that would give the Royals the championship.
